Special announcement! The Piquey Eater now travels.
Okay, not really, but I did take my first official vacation since 2005 (that’s 8 years). I decided to go to the sunny state of Florida in the city of Orlando where childhood dreams are made. After getting settled in the resort late afternoon I decided that an early dinner would be the best since the last time I ate that day was early morning before the flight.
Right by the Orlando Premium Outlet Mall on Vineland Ave, there is a seafood restaurant called Landry’s Seafood. For those of you unfamiliar with the state of Florida, they are known for their seafood due to their proximity to the ocean.
Portions at Landry’s are large and the seafood was amazing with great flavour. I ordered the Blue Crab Cake as an appetizer and it was absolutely delicious. Made with real pieces of fresh blue crab, forming the majority of the cake. Most places that make crab cakes tend to put a significant amount of filler (bread crumbs, egg, vegetables etc.) and quite simply, it takes away from the flavour of the crab.
For the main, I ordered the Broiled Seafood Platter which included a medley of shrimp (grilled, broiled, stuffed), a filet of sole topped with a cream sauce and mushrooms, along with a crab bake (in-shell). Simple ingredients, done very well and really exemplifies the quality of Floridian seafood and how fresh it all is.
Seeing as this is only day 1 of my trip, I’m salivating thinking about the possibilities of good Piquey eats.
Until we dine again,
